Who's ready for spring time? I don't know about you but I certainly am. My hands are just itching to get into the soil and start planting early spring flowers and ornamentals. Before you head over to the local nursery consider trimming your dormant trees.
Tree trimming is an often neglected chore. Possibly because we just don't know how or when to trim trees. I'm here to tell you that now is a great time to trim your trees (well...most trees). With just a few good garden tools you can usually perform trimming yourself. So here are five good reasons to trim your Louisiana trees now. I'll also tell you WHAT trees should be trimmed now. 1. BEFORE NEW GROWTH STARTS While we are getting close to spring time in South Louisiana most of our trees are not actively growing. This means it's a lot easier to see the limbs and branches that need trimming. Look for dead and diseased branches and remove them. 2. EASIER TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO SHAPE Sometimes we need to help trees grow in a certain direction. Summer-flowering trees such as Crape Myrtle, Oleander and Althea have not set flower buds just yet. Now is a great time to shape these trees. Be careful not to overdue the trimming. 3. BEFORE HURRICANE SEASON Here is possibly the most important reason of all. Don't wait until hurricane season is upon us to take a look at those pecan trees or oak trees. While these trees are dormant it will be much easier to see what branches are hanging over fencing, structures such as a shed or even your house, power lines and such. This type of trimming will usually require hiring a professional to do the job. 4. TRIMMING CAN IMPROVE FLOWER OR FRUIT PRODUCTION Trimming fruit trees such as orange, grapefruit and other citrus is best done in February. There are several benefits to trimming citrus trees now in Louisiana. The health of the tree is improved when removing upper leafy branches thereby enabling more light to filter through the tree and increasing flower production on the lower branches. It's also important to trim shoot growth which can limit air circulation and possibly lead to disease. 5. SAVE TIME AND MONEY BY TRIMMING NOW South Louisiana is home to many grand Live Oak, Magnolia, and Pecan trees. These spectacular trees are not only beautiful but give us shade during the hot Louisiana summers. These trees also require regular maintenance to keep them healthy. While these trees are dormant it's the best time to trim them. Hiring a license and insured professional tree expert now will save time because it's easier to identify limbs and branches to remove. This will in turn save you money now and in the long run. Acadiana Tree and Stump Removal will take care of your tree trimming needs now or at any time you need expert and professional service. We serve South Louisiana including Lafayette, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.
